High RPM Changes the Inspection
Yanmar N-series and 6N18 auxiliaries accumulate revolutions roughly three times faster than a slow-speed main engine. Fatigue, not wear, is the life limiter: crankshaft fillets, connecting-rod bolts and cylinder-head fire decks. A part that "looks fine" at 900 RPM service needs NDT proof, not optimism.
- Crankshafts: MPI on every fillet and oil hole is non-negotiable at these speeds. Stock examples: T240L with full dimensional packs — the acceptance bar is our standard crankshaft verification routine.
- Cylinder heads: fire-deck cracking between valves is the classic high-hour failure. Dye-penetrant or MPI the deck; check valve-seat recession against maker limits. See the N21 cylinder head listing for the documentation to demand.
- Engine blocks: main-bearing saddle alignment and liner landing faces decide everything. Our 6N18 block passed saddle-bore checks before listing — ask any supplier for the same sheet.
Coverage
Rotating Yanmar stock centers on the N-Series platform via our Yanmar desk, with weekly movement through new arrivals. High-speed engine buyers should lead with the serial number — Yanmar running changes mean parts are rarely interchangeable across serial ranges. Message the sales team with type + serial and get a same-week answer.
